Most people associate arnica as a remedy for bruising. While it certainly helps to disperse stagnant fluids from bruised tissue and reduce the dark colours associated with a bruise - arnica is, and does, so much more than that.
But first, what is arnica? Arnica montana (to give it it’s full name) is a tall stemmed, daisy-like plant with a single yellow flower head. Arnica has been used for centuries to alleviate muscular pain, sprains, inflammation and, yes, bruising.
There are many different types of arnica preparations – extracts of arnica montana can be found in oil, gel, alcohol, essential oil and herbal and homeopathic preparations.
Herbal oil extracts are favoured most for their potency and efficacy. Gel and alcohol-based extracts can be effective, but evaporate from the skin much more quickly rather than being absorbed for lasting effects. Arnica essential oil is not an oil extract – it is only the volatile essence, or fragrance, of the plant. It does not contain the complete array of healing constituents found in the whole flower oil infusion. It is this whole flower oil infusion that Pure Pro use in their therapeutic massage oil, lotion and concentrate.
How Pure Pro make Arnica extract for their products.
All Pure Pro’s products that contain arnica, are based on an in-house infusion to make the extract which is then added to their oils, lotions, creams and concentrate. It is a long, slow process with the dried, organic flower heads being immersed in organic golden jojoba oil for three days. The flower heads absorb the oil like sponges and then slowly release their healing properties into the oil over another three days and voila, you have a powerful organic arnica extract base.
